I'm Lei, founder of Planet Kawaii, and together with my daughter Yasmin, we run this family business from the beautiful Isle of Wight in the UK. 💖
Planet Kawaii was born from a simple idea and a shared love of all things cute.
For many years, our family has travelled regularly to Asia to visit relatives in Hong Kong and Thailand. Every trip was filled with visits to amazing kawaii shops packed with adorable stationery, plushies, accessories, bubble tea goodies 🧋, cute animal characters 🐻 and colourful gifts. These stores were full of happiness, creativity and fun.
Whenever we returned home to the UK, especially to the Isle of Wight, we noticed something was missing. There weren't many places where people could discover the same cute and playful products that we loved so much.
One day, my daughter Yasmin asked a simple question:
"Why don't we open our own kawaii shop?"
That question became Planet Kawaii. ⭐
🌈 How Planet Kawaii Started
Planet Kawaii first launched in October 2024 as a small hobby business on Vinted. What started as a fun project quickly grew into something much bigger as customers across the UK fell in love with our carefully selected kawaii products.
In April 2026, we decided it was time to create our own online home. We began building the Planet Kawaii website in May 2026, allowing us to offer a wider range of products and create a shopping experience that truly reflects our colourful brand and values.
Today, Planet Kawaii continues to grow while staying true to its roots as a family-run business built on creativity, happiness and personal customer service. 💕
🎀 Why We Love Kawaii Culture
The word "kawaii" means "cute" in Japanese, but for us it means much more than that.
Kawaii is about bringing joy into everyday life. It's about surrounding yourself with things that make you smile, whether that's a cute shoe charm, a pastel notebook, a bubble tea keyring or a colourful accessory. 🌸
For Yasmin, kawaii culture reflects her love of Korean and Japanese trends, cute characters and colourful designs.
For me, visiting kawaii stores in Asia brings back childhood memories. Walking into a shop filled with pastel colours, adorable characters and fun accessories instantly makes me feel like a child again. ✨
That feeling of happiness, nostalgia and joy is something we hope to share with every customer who visits Planet Kawaii. 💖
